Great Llama Links!

Indiana has one of the largest llama youth programs in the country. Indiana's 4-H programs continue an almost 100 year tradition to "educate youth and adults through practical, hands-on, learn-by-doing methods that emphasize life skills."

Question: What do 252,000 Indiana youth have in common?

Answer: 4-H!

The 4-H moto: "To make the Best, Better."

The 4-H Slogan: "Learn by Doing."

Llamas have joined the Indiana 4-H program, giving kids from 10-20 years of age the opportunity to learn important skills not only concerning the care and training of llamas, but also responsibility, leadership, and community service.

Llamas are often loaned by farms for use fo 4-H'ers that do not own their own animals.  Llamas are boarded at a host farm, where the 4-H'ers meet to learn skills in handling, training, grooming and showing.

County fairs, the Indiana State Fair, and other llama shows, parades, and events give the 4-H'ers the opportunity to demonstrated their skills in showmanship, costume classes, and obstacle courses.  Project books and poster competitions let the 4-H'ers share what they have learned.

The 4-H Pledge:

I Pledge

  • My head to clearer thinking
  • My heart to greater loyalty
  • My hands to larger service
  • My health to better living,

for my Club, my Community, and my World
    .

You are invitied to join 4-H, volunteer as a leader or host farm,
or to loan a llama to the program!
